Meredith (EST.1768) is a restored mill village, that acquired its name when Governor Wentworth granted the land to Sir William Meredith, 3rd Baronet, a member of Parliament. It is located 115 miles north of Boston, Massachusetts, and 45 miles northeast of Concord, New Hampshire.
Orginally a farming community, it later became known as a mill village. With the outlet of Lake Waukewan and Wickwas Lake providing water power, Meredith had several mills, a blacksmith shop, and tannery. Once railroad access was established, Meredith soon became a popular summer resort.
Today, Meredith remains a vibrant resort town, with its charming down town over looking Lake Winnipesaukee. It has many quaint shops, galleries and restaurants to wander through. To accommodate summer crowds, the old mills were renivated into hotels, inns, resturants, shops and spas. There is a scenic walkway, along side Meredith Bay. Also, alongside Meredith Bay is Hesky Park, the site of the Anuual Ice Fishing Derby. No matter the season, there is always plenty to do in this highly desirable, centerally located resort community.
Recent census data states a population of 4,484; the median income for a household in the town is $42,758, and the median income for a family is $54,764.
The town has recently built or updated the public safety building, town hall, and recreational center.
Meredith students attend Inter-Lakes Elementary School and Inter-Lakes Junior-Senior High School in Meredith, joining students from Center Harbor and Sandwich.
