Long Island on Lake Winnipesaukee

Long Island on Lake Winnipesaukee

At 1,186 acres in area, Long Island is the largest of Lake Winnipesaukee’s 274 islands. Long Island is also one of only six islands on Lake Winnipesaukee that is bridged and easily accessible by car year-round. A mix of seasonal and year-round homes are found on Long Island, and some truly spectacular waterfront estates can be found on the island. Along Long Island’s southern and western shorelines, waterfront homes enjoy long lake and mountain views, a sunny exposure, clear waters with often sandy bottom swimming, and the kind of picturesque sunsets that you’d reserve for a postcard. Long Island’s eastern shoreline offers beautiful sunrises and the waters along its shoreline are generally a bit more protected given its location across from Cow Island and Little Bear Island. The northern shoreline of Long Island, across from the mainland, offers calmer waters, as well as beautiful views of the Ossipee Mountain range – and of course, quick boating access to the broader part of Lake Winnipesaukee. Long Island benefits from its location, entirely within the town of Moultonborough, which offers the lowest tax rate of any town on Lake Winnipesaukee, and one of the lowest tax rates in the entire state of New Hampshire. This makes Moultonborough an ideal town to invest and a favorite for those looking to purchase a home at the lake.

The Long Island Town Beach, available to residents of Moultonborough, is one of the finest beaches on Lake Winnipesaukee with gentle walk-in sand, clear waters, a sunny exposure, swim rafts and picnic tables.
